LAW DEPARTMENT
Law Department: To execute its judicial prerogatives the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council has constituted a Law Department. Its main function are as follows:-
I. Drafting of Bills to be placed in the Council.
II. Monitor the implementation of the existing Laws, Regulations and Rules as well as Customary Laws in vogue.
III. Compilation of the Executive Orders passed from time to time and to suggest framing of Rules for the implementation of Acts, Regulations as well as to suggest suitable amendments to the existing Acts, Rules, Regulations, etc.
IV. To act as nodal and liason for assisting the Standing Counsels/Legal Advisers in all matters connected with Court Cases.
V To study all important records from various departments as well as Court Cases and records that needs to be computerized.
VI. To prepare papers/documents relating with the codification of customary laws of various Elakas.
VII. To draft model agreement in respect of Land, Property, Lease etc.
